Fire Task Forces were established in 2023 to provide a reinforced response to fires and other major incidents. Task Force staffing is drawn from firefighters and emergency medical responders who are dual-rostered as Emergency Management volunteers. These Task Forces are dispatched at the request of local incident commanders to support and strengthen individual fire districts during an incident.
Task Force membership selection is determined in the following order of priority:
Mississippi Certified Volunteer Firefighter
Level II Certified Volunteer Firefighter
Level I Certified Volunteer Firefighter
Task Force Crew Bosses and Task Force Leaders are selected ad hoc on each response. Ideally, these leaders are Fire Officer I certified at a minimum.
Fire Task Force is comprised as follows:
Six to Ten Certified Firefighters, divided into two crews of three to five, each with a Crew Boss (Crew Boss ideally a Mississippi Volunteer Fire Officer I)
Two Firefighter/EMRs as Safety Crew (Crew Boss ideally a Mississippi Volunteer Fire Officer I)
Task Force Leader (Task Force Leader ideally a Mississippi Volunteer Fire Officer II)
Two to Three Apparatus for Logistics & Water Supply, with their driver/operator
Tanker added for rural operations
South Task Force:
District 1: Indianola FD
District 2: Inverness VFD
District 3: Moorhead VFD
District 4: Sunflower VFD
North Task Force:
District 6: Ruleville VFD
District 7: Drew VFD
District 8: Parchman VFD
District 9: LSR VFD
